Mobile Operators Will Discontinue Money Exchange Service in 2023

PHNOM PENH: All mobile service providers will stop providing "money exchange" plans from 1 March 2023 onward, which will make this 10-year-old service permanently unavailable to every user.

In a statement issued on 22 December 2022, the Association of Telecommunication Operators in Cambodia (ATOC) announced that the exchange packages will be updated to include Internet data, minutes for outgoing calls, and the number of messages allowed.

"A clear package allocation will allow customers to know exactly how much Internet data, calls, and SMS they receive," the statement read.

ATOC added that customers can go to the branch of their mobile service operators and choose a new preferred plan. If not, the company will automatically switch the plan before 1 March 2023.

It should be noted that the "money exchange" service caused fierce competition between two companies in 2016. The two companies competed by offering more money per exchange package, allowing mobile service users to greatly benefit at the time, which prompted the Ministry of Posts to intervene and calm things down.
